Listening 40 minutes:

Test takers are given a scenario on computer/paper, and have to listen to a conversation regarding to the given scenario and write /type down the appropriate answers. A variety of question types are used, including multiple choice, form completion, note completion, summary completion, sentence completion, and short-answer questions. You will hear conversations and monologues, with topics ranging from the everyday social to the academic. Test takers for IELTS Academic and IELTS General both do the same listening test

Texts are taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers, and have been written for a non-specialist audience.

All the topics are of general interest. They deal with issues which are interesting, recognisably appropriate and accessible to test takers entering undergraduate or postgraduate courses or seeking professional registration.
